We celebrate freedom every July, but itโs helpful to remember that freedom isnโt free.
We must plan for it. Work for it. Sacrifice for it.
Itโs found in places a lot of people donโt expect โ like discipline, focus and vision. These are some of the requirements necessary to achieve freedom, even if they seem counterintuitive to the idea that we should all just, you know, BE free.
Freedom is not just doing what you want with no regard to the outcome outside of your ego gratification.
That’s being a slave to your desires and fears.
Maybe youโve heard the old saying, โThe price of freedom is eternal vigilance.โ Itโs true for individuals as well as for countries.
Personal freedom comes when we live the life we choose for ourselves, while also respecting others and our communities. Do you have the necessary traitsโฆ?
๐๐ฝ Vision. What do you want your life to be like? Can you see how it will be?
๐๐ฝ Planning. Can you map out a path, anticipating resources and challenges along the way?
๐๐ฝ Discipline. Can you hang with it and do the necessary work? When your ego and fear scream to take another ‘easier’ path, that ultimately won’t move you forward.?
๐๐ฝ Sharing. Can you help others around you to fulfill their dreams, too?
Iโm betting you can. In fact, I KNOW you can rise to all these challenges and more.
Create your own destiny of freedom by having a vision and being disciplined.

It can feel so defeating when, after youโve decided to establish healthy habits like exercising regularly and eating right, your determination hits an unexpected hurdle:
The costs.
Believe me, I know itโs frustrating, especially these days.
But thereโs a way to look at the cost associated with fitness and dieting.
First, the costs donโt have to be high, and you donโt have to spend a ton of money on things that donโt serve you. Trust me, the latest, newest, shiniest thing isnโt always the best. (In fact, itโs usually not.) But if you buy workout clothes and shoesโฆ pay for a gym membershipโฆ maybe a trainer… it adds up and can become an easy excuse to trigger your fears of failure (we all have them) and potentially derail you.
Plus, when buying groceries, we all know that eating well is more costly than buying junk food. It’s unfortunate, but itโs the sad truth!
Itโs all about priorities. There are people who spend $50 a week at Starbucks but penny-pinch and DIY their fitness routine!
Hereโs the way to think about any money you spend on your health and fitness.
Itโs not a cost.
Itโs an investment.
And we all know the difference between merely spending money (Starbucks) and doing something useful with it that will bring back its value many times over (taking care of yourself). This is not groundbreaking news.
If you think that you can penny-pinch and DIY your routines with random articles, videos and freebies that are offered, think about the non-monetary cost. Wasting your time and not achieving your goals, Getting injured with a program that doesn’t take “you” into consideration. The confusion you get trying to piece together pieces of information without a solid base of understanding. The lack of control you will feel knowing that you don’t know how to take care of your own body.
You are investing in a long-term project….you. Going about it in a hodge-podge cheap manner will give you the same in your results.
Never be shy to invest in your health.

This is not my norm; I was at a loss when it hit me. I am a seize-the-day guy who loves working hard and getting things done. It’s how I have operated my entire life and accomplished a lot.
So when I didn’t feel my normal “Roar” to start the day, I had no connection to me. I didn’t quite know what to do. So I went through my day and did what I usually would, but I felt like I was watching somebody else.
This continued for a few months, and I tried everything I usually would to maximize myself and keep moving forward. But it only made it worse, which of course, started to add frustration to the situation.
I was pushing, like I usually do, to move forward. But I didn’t realize life was pushing back. It was telling me I was making the wrong move. Unfortunately, it took me a while to hear. One of my best qualities is that I will make myself do something if I know it will lead to a better outcome. I’d rather be uncomfortable in the short term so that I am not uncomfortable in the long term.
But one of my most detrimental qualities is that I keep going when I should stop and gather myself. My dedication turns into forcing and fighting, leading to the energy of forcing and fighting. Jeeze, when I say it out loud, it’s uncomfortable.
And that is what I felt inside. Extremely uncomfortable until one day, I emotionally and mentally couldn’t take it anymore. Something had to change.
And that is why I am writing you today. If you want a different result, you must do something completely different.
Where are you using โoldโ thinking patterns to achieve new results? Youโll know because you feel stuck, frustrated, and confused.
โWe cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created themโ Einstein.
Since it’s different, YOU WILL be frustrated and confused and feel like you want to return to what is comfortable.
I had to and am in the process of “revamping” how I operate. Not easy because I have no frame of reference other than what I was doing before isn’t going to work now. I am still in this process, but I have seen it work in many other situations with myself and numerous others. And I am keeping myself open.
Stick with it, and you will grow into a more fulfilled version of yourself. Quit, and you stay the same, and that gnawing feeling that you are stuck will grow and consume you. Not an exaggeration.

We all have a sense of identity, of who we are.
For instance, you might be an American. You might also be a parent. You could be a spouse too. You could be a writer.
Some parts of our identity are given to us and fixed, but others we choose on our own โ often without realizing weโre making a choice.
So, letโs think about the choices we make that affect our identity. What are those choices based on?
I believe theyโre based on what we want โ and how we limit our chances of success by misidentifying ourselves.
Letโs say you have a goal of having a body that stays strong, balanced, and mobile as you age so that you can continue to live your life uninhibited.
You could express that in terms of an outcome, like โI want to be able to continue my life as is as I get older.โ But the problem with outcomes is that we canโt always control them, then we feel like failures and, too often, give up.
But what if you switched from the OUTCOME to the IDENTITY by saying, โIโm the kind of person who enjoys working with my body to keep it strong, mobile and balanced.”
Next, reverse-engineer the process by asking, What does that kind of person do? And then start doing those things.
So, instead of thinking that โa strong, mobile, and balanced bodyโ is something you want someday, you adapt the goal as part of your identity. Youโre the kind of person who can maintain a body like this, and youโre doing the things that you need to do to be this person, which will constantly achieve the outcome.
Success follows the actions, which follow the shift in how you think about yourself.
You can follow this process with anything you desire, like this.
โI want to go to Paris someday, but Iโll never be able to afford itโ easily becomes, โIโm the kind of person who saves $50 a week so I can go on a nice vacation once a year.โ
I know youโre the kind of person with powerful emotions, an awesome track record, and the mindset to make things happen for yourself and others.
