Our Newest Personal Trainer
I was born outside of Brussels, Belgium, in the Flanders region. I am fluent in Dutch, French, and English, and by living in New Mexico I am hoping to learn Spanish as well. I was very active as a child and adolescent, playing soccer, basketball, swimming, judo, and track and field while growing up in Europe. I always enjoyed participating in traditional sports, which acted as a catalyst for my high school and college studies as a PE teacher. I received my Bachelors in Physical Education and Recreation and shortly thereafter moved to the United States.
I have been living in the United States for over 14 years; first in Wisconsin, then Colorado, followed by Montana, and now have settled in New Mexico in the hopes of making it my permanent home. When I first moved to the U.S., I was energized by the available recreation opportunities in natural areas and have picked up many more active pursuits since moving here. I have become an avid biker, hiker, skier, snowboarder, trail runner, endurance racer, and triathlete. I am an Ironman finisher, and have completed ultra-triathlons longer than the Ironman distance. I am particularly passionate about all forms of cycling, and choose to commute to work whenever possible. I love to ride, build, maintain, and learn about bikes. I also love helping others find the enjoyment I receive while riding.
With endurance sports, comes patience, persistence, and mental fortitude to keep going. I have been lucky enough to have not sustained many injuries, but certainly understand the importance of a healthy body and lifestyle for my competitions and overall well being. I am reminded of this particularly when I am struggling to deal with chronic back pain as a result of improper posture and movement. I have always just pushed through the pain, never taking corrective action, until I became associated with SolCore Fitness. I look forward to learning about how to take better care of myself (and others) so that I can follow my passions pain-free.
I have worked as a PE teacher for elementary age children, been an administrative specialist for a small Montessori school, done snow sports teaching, and spent many years in the outdoor retail atmosphere in sales and as a bike/ski mechanic. While all my experiences have been rewarding, I felt most valued and fulfilled while working as a private coach. I loved helping kids and adults improve their swimming, biking, skiing, snowboarding, and triathlon abilities.
I have always been drawn to the idea of being a personal trainer and I am currently taking classes at the Santa Fe Community College in order to receive my ACE personal trainer certificate. These courses have been helpful in reinforcing all that I am learning with SolCore Fitness. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn a new skill set and teach at SolCore Fitness as a personal trainer. I am excited about helping people live healthy and pain-free lifestyles. I look forward to learning more about the SolCore Fitness Soma Training philosophy, the exercise techniques (ELDOA, Myofascial Stretching, etc) and how to better help my clients.
